Question:
I am looking to do my first dummy cake. So have a couple of questions. Do I cover the polystyrofoam
in glad wrap first? If not what do I use to make the Fondant stick to the cake dummy? Thanks.

I use water but have seen people use Crisco or vegetable day as it makes it easier to remove afterwards
I use a thin covering of Solite. To attach dummy to a board, Masking tape on dummy then small amount of glue gun on masking tape, press dummy to cake board. NB Masking tape stops dummy hot glue from melting the Styrofoam. Learnt this trick doing a Chocolate workshop with Jessica Pedemont.
I use piping gel and i just soak in soapy water to take off the fondant, double sided tape and gunge are great for sticking the dummy to the board
You can all so add some small dowels to the board, to impale the dummy like the photo but possible 3 shorter ones
Just sugar syrup. I covered it completely so we could stick it to the board. To clean dummy, soak o/n then just put in dishwasher. Squeaky clean!
I run the dummy under the tap then pat dry. Just so there is a tiny bit of moisture there.

Tylose Glue

Q: : Hi Vicki (Central Coast branch member), can you give your recipe for tylose glue using vodka.
I have looked online and there are a number of different recipes - not sure what one is right.

A: It’s super easy, and I only make a small quantity at a time.

Quarter of a teaspoon of tylose powder
Two tablespoons of vodka

Mix until dissolved, then store in a suitable container
(I use a “nail polish bottle" purchased from Cake Decorating Store
It doesn’t need to be stored in the fridge and lasts without going rancid for ages,

rather than the couple of weeks that water based glue does

As with all tylose glue, be aware that it leaves shiny marks if you are not careful and petal dust
won’t adhere to it
